The Transformation of Helplessness, Hopelessness and Despair
Attachment, Emotion and Sensorimotor/Somatic Interventions in Moment-to-Moment Clinical Action
Saturday, September 29, 2018 – 9AM – 4:30PM
Beverly Hills Womens Club
Beverly Hills, CA
Join us for a one day workshop focusing on the importance of effective clinical tools for addressing — and transforming– clients’ experiences of helplessness, hopelessness and isolation, issues of great relevance, particularly as our increasingly fractured society is fed by a media obsessed with the sensationalism of despair. In this collaborative workshop, Diana Fosha and Bonnie Goldstein will explore in depth how, respectively, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) conceptualize and clinically address these issues in work with adults (Dr. Fosha) and adolescents and young adults transitioning-to-adulthood (Dr. Goldstein).
Utilizing case studies, experiential exercises and brief videotaped sessions, Diana Fosha will launch this daylong workshop exploring and illustrating how AEDP’s (a) positive neuroplasticity orientation, (b) attachment focus, (c) experiential work with relational and emotional experience, and (d) metaprocessing of transformational experience is translated into specific, teachable and learnable, moment-to-moment interventions.
Bonnie Goldstein will illustrate Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in clinical practice with this at-risk younger population, perhaps the most vulnerable to isolation and being influenced by the current media onslaught. Addressing both the verbal and nonverbal legacies of trauma and attachment disorders, and prioritizing the bodyʼs innate intelligence, case studies, experiential exercises and brief videotaped sessions will illuminate these concepts.
6 Continuing Education Hours offered to psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, counselors, nurses, wellness coaches, and other mental health care professionals and community members.
