A Practical Understanding of Anger from an AEDP Perspective: Using Anger Constructively In and Out of Psychotherapy

April 14, 2023
11:00 am – 2:00 pm Eastern Time USA

This seminar is intended for Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Social Workers, Counselors/Marriage and Family Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists.

Description:

In this 3-hour workshop, psychoanalyst and certified AEDP psychotherapist, Hilary Jacobs Hendel, will teach participants how to work with anger as a core emotion and a defense. Working with anger lowers anxiety, eases depression, and helps your relationship with self and other. Through experiential exercises, didactic teaching with slides, clinical video showing a rage “portrayal,” and Q&A, participants will come away with tools to recognize and work with both their own and others anger in and out of psychotherapy.

Knowing more about anger from an AEDP perspective will help healthcare professionals feel more comfortable with their own and others (clients, patients, loved ones) anger.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand a constructive path to working with anger using the “Triangle” as a guide.
  • Identify core and inhibitory emotions and the defenses that block them which sets the stage for change and transformation.
  • Apply techniques to process anger to ameliorate symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  • Apply techniques to build confidence that therapists can invite client’s anger into the sessions.
