AEDP Training Levels: A Structured Pathway for Growing Knowledge, Skills and Ability to Foster Healing and Flourishing
The AEDP Institute offers a structured pathway for licensed therapists to develop and refine their skills through various levels of training. Each level builds upon the previous one, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of AEDP principles and practices.
Level One: Completion of a 5-day entry-level ‘Immersion’ training introducing core AEDP concepts and techniques. Therapists learn foundational theories, including the four-state model of transformation and begin to apply basic AEDP interventions like moment-to-moment tracking, pressuring with empathy and meta-therapeutic processing.
Level Two: Completion of a 10-day intermediate-level ‘Essential Skills’ course taught over 10 months. This training delves deeper into the nuanced application of AEDP psychotherapy. Therapists learn about and do experiential work practicing specific techniques for facilitating emotional processing, transformance, transformation and healing. Many therapists seek AEDP supervision while involved in their Level two training to further refine their skills.
Level Three: Achieving Level 3 through supervision and/or advanced training courses represents a significant step in a therapist’s professional development and their skills in the AEDP model. Therapists at this level have gained a deeper understanding of AEDP theory and interventions and their application in increasingly complex clinical scenarios. Level 3 clinicians have received rigorous supervision and are expected to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in practicing AEDP.
Certified Therapist: Becoming AEDP Certified requires a deep commitment to achieving excellence in this challenging and rewarding clinical practice. Certified Therapists have demonstrated proficiency in applying AEDP principles and interventions consistently and effectively. The certification process involves rigorous self and supervisory assessment, as well as intense, affirmative supervision from masters in the field, and ultimately a deep analysis of their own videotaped clinical case work that is evaluated to ensure adherence to the high standard of certification.
Certified Supervisor: Becoming a Certified Supervisor is about becoming a master of the model who embodies the AEDP ethos while practicing its skills at the highest level. Supervisors are able to articulate AEDP theory and practice as they mentor and teach it to other therapists. Once this level is achieved, Certified Supervisors join a group of passionate, skilled individuals who contribute to the health, integrity and dissemination of AEDP worldwide.
Faculty: The pinnacle Level of AEDP mastery and dedication, Faculty is reserved for those who demonstrate excellence in advancing the model through research, writing, teaching, and practice. They play a crucial role in shaping the future of the AEDP model and of the AEDP Institute.
Each level of AEDP training is designed to progressively enhance a therapist’s ability to facilitate deep, transformative healing. Completing the training and supervision required at every level ensures that AEDP therapists provide high quality care, aligned with the latest research and best practices in the field.
