It is with immense pleasure that Ben Lipton and I announce that John Wiskind is now a Certified AEDP Supervisor!!!
Of his work, John’s reviewers wrote…
“John Wiskind demonstrates the relational presence, cultural sensitivity, and faithful use of AEDP models that the Institute requires for supervisor certification. His rich clinical excerpts exemplify how he privileges positive affect, undoes aloneness, and scaffolds supervisees’ emerging capacities.”
“He seems well grounded in AEDP theory and practice and can move from his experience taking in AEDP, being a therapist in AEDP and supervising within the AEDP model.”
“The relational component seems an especially strong suit of his. Constantly starting by inviting the supervisee to state what they want and need and following through on monitoring that. He seems very attuned to the anxiety supervisees feel about their exposure and adept at sitting side by side with them working that through.”
“It is understandable why he has not experienced much conflict in the supervisory process because he appears to be a person who would not evoke conflict because of his deep understanding and use of the AEDP model and his attunement to his supervisees.
Congratulations on doing some superb work as a supervisor.”
Ben Lipton, John’s primary supervisor, writes this about John:
“From our very first supervision session years ago until now, John consistently has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring that his personal beliefs and perspective align with what he commits to in growing his AEDP skills, first as a clinician and more recently as a supervisor in training. He has worked in a very organized, persistent, determined way, one step at a time, with mindful focus, deep intention, and the courage to step out of his comfort zone. This has been true even when, on several occasions, doing so meant challenging Institute norms and faculty perspectives.
With a gentle steadiness and an unwavering stance of curiosity, John privileges his supervisees’ transformance glimmers, nurtures attachment safety between them, identifies areas for growth and strengthens their receptive affective capacities. Together, this serves as experiential modeling that is clearly reflected in the work of his supervisees with their own clients. And, it has been a delight to witness the ways in which this process has had a commensurate impact on John’s own recognition of the power and impact of his presence and guidance as a supervisor.
What I wrote years ago for his AEDP therapist certification remains foundational to his current practice as a supervisor: John embodies the “Right- and Left-brain” integration of abilities that we hope for in our certified therapists that include intellectual curiosity, clinical skillfulness, emotional intelligence, and introspective openness.
Lastly, I want to highlight John’s commitment to anti-racism and diversity in his practice. I have learned much from him in these areas and am excited that his supervisees and their clients may have that opportunity, as well.
I’m grateful for John’s dedication to learning AEDP as well as his generous commitment to the AEDP community as an experiential assistant and community builder. We’re lucky to have him in his new role as a supervisor and I am delighted to welcome him into this new role!”
Jeanne Newhouse writes about her work with John as his secondary supervisor;
“Working with John on his supervision of supervision has been a rich and wonderful experience. I have learned as I have helped to teach. John’s work is skillful and attuned. I witnessed his work with many different supervisees, and he met each of them where they were, be they new at the model or more skilled, be they young in years or more advanced in years than he is. A real strength of John’s is his steady slow stance of curiosity and kindness blended with his very strong theoretical grounding. I could feel John holding his position as a supervisor knowing the impact of that position on the tender field of learning an experiential model experientially by the therapists he worked with,”
It is Ben’s and my great pleasure to make this announcement of John as a Certified AEDP supervisor. I like Ben, welcome him as an esteemed colleague.
Those of you who wish to congratulate John as well may do so at john.wiskind@gmail.com.
Wishing all the best to all of you!
