Liberating the Core Self from Systems of Power Privilege and Oppression with AEDP

OBJECTIVES:

  • Participants will be able to:
  • Define the essential elements of social experience, including socialization, group dynamics, and the impact of social norms.
  • Explain how social experience shapes individuals’ views of themselves, others and social groups, including perceptions of worthiness and belonging.
  • Define intersectionality and explain how intersecting identities contribute to complex social dynamics and influence individuals’ affective experiences, behaviors, and sense of well-being.
  • Describe how to use the Triangle of Social Experience to help track the relationship between social, relational, and affective experiences in therapy.
  • Identify 3 ways to utilize the Triangle of Social Experience to help guide therapeutic interventions using AEDP.
  • Develop experiential methods for helping clients access the Core Self and expand experiences of internal liberation.
  • Demonstrate greater ability and sensitivity in integrating AEDP theory and clinical work with members of oppressed social groups.
