AEDP Institute

Essential Skills Experiential Assistants

In envisioning how to most effectively teach AEDP, Diana Fosha and the Institute’s faculty members agreed that the teaching needed to reflect this fundamentally experiential model. Experiential learning was as important to the learning process as the didactic learning (in which AEDP theory and its underlying theoretical foundations are made explicit),  and the clinical learning from the video presentations (through which AEDP clinical work comes alive with video of actual client sessions). And while faculty are responsible for the didactic teaching and the teaching from videos of clinical sessions, the experiential learning could not happen without AEDP Experiential Assistants. The caring and observant gaze of the skilled, experienced AEDP therapist in the role of Experiential Assistant allows each Skills course participant to experience AEDP fully: as therapist, as client, and as witness.

Dozens of generous, talented therapists have been invited by the Institute’s Essential Skills faculty to assist with experiential learning. In addition to giftedness in practicing and guiding AEDP, the Experiential Assistants are an unusually committed, devoted group of AEDP practitioners: they set to the side their practices, clients, and income-generating work in order to facilitate and hold AEDP learning. They give their time, energy, knowledge, and heart to make the AEDP Skills courses into rich learning opportunities. The AEDP Institute is grateful to our Experiential Assistants and we honor and thank them.

And being an Experiential Assistant not only helps participants in our Skills courses with embodying their learning of AEDP, but it further hones the skills of the Assistants themselves; and it deepens their human connections with the AEDP community. So, for all of these reasons, it is important to share just who these critical individuals are.

The Institute would simply not be a the same teaching organization or community without these individuals. We are deeply grateful for their generosity and hold them in the highest personal and professional esteem.

This list represents the talented Experiential Assistants who have assisted in a Skills course in 2018; and this page only lists the courses they assisted in during 2018. We apologize for not having better, more complete histories to reliably share at this time – the list is being expanded.
