Becoming an AEDP Certified Therapist

Learn. Practice. Demonstrate.

Becoming an AEDP Certified Therapist is a developmental process that integrates training, supervision, and demonstrated clinical competence

Learn. Practice. Demonstrate.

Learn the Model: complete the required certification courses

Build a strong foundation through core courses—Immersion, Essential Skills, and Advanced Skills—along with supervision. You will develop:

  • A deep understanding of AEDP theory
  • Fluency in clinical maps
  • Skill in core interventions

Practice with Support: complete the required supervision

Supervision is where the model comes alive. In supervision, you will:

  • Translate theory into real clinical work
  • Strengthen moment-to-moment tracking and responsiveness
  • Deepen attunement to your clients—and to yourself
  • Experience the presence and co-regulation central to AEDP

View the Supervision page for more information

Demonstrate Competence: complete the recorded sessions and written work

Certification is achieved by demonstrating your clinical effectiveness through recorded sessions and written work. You will show the ability to:

  • Stay emotionally present and regulated
  • Facilitate core affect and transformational change
  • Apply interventions with flexibility and precision
  • Repair ruptures and deepen the therapeutic process

Certification is not about checking boxes—it is about

After achieving level 3 by completing all required courses and Supervision, you are considered certification-ready.

Certification Supervisor Requirements

Your Certification Supervisor must be either a Faculty Member or a Certified Supervisor.

A minimum of 10 hours of individual supervision is required with a Certification Supervisor who will support you in developing your certification package and determining your readiness for review.

Please note that 10 hours is considered a starting point. Readiness is determined by your supervisor based on your clinical integration, transformational process work, and overall clinical presence. For many candidates, additional supervision may be recommended before submission.

Two-Supervisor Requirement

Candidates must have worked with at least two different supervisors during their AEDP training process.

If you completed Level 3 with only one supervisor, your Certification Supervisor must be someone new. This supports a broader and more enriched learning experience.
