Presented In-Person at Immersive Therapies in Portland, Oregon
by AEDP in Portland’s Emily Bilbao, LSCW & Deb Lee-Thornby, LMFT and by Liz Perkins, LMFT
an AEDP Institute-Supported* training
3 days, Friday thru Sunday | September 13 – 15, 2024
Learn how to lead an AEDP-informed psilocybin assisted therapy journey the way that really matters: experientially. Come to this weekend-long, hands-on training. Choose to experience the work as a guide or as a participant.
Course Description:
This is a 3-day experiential training for professionals exploring the possibilities of integrating AEDP with therapeutic psychedelic healing experiences.
Together we will learn how to use our AEDP skills of moment-to-moment tracking, relational attunement, undoing aloneness, and the use of touch, affirmations, portrayals and meta-processing, to discover how these skills are the same or differ when sitting with a client in an altered state of consciousness.
The training is set in an intimate setting with no more than 24 participants; in fact we will spend much of the weekend in groups of 3. It involves intellectual and experiential learning allowing trainees to get to know the medicine moment-to-moment through experience, observation, tracking and exploring.
Agenda
Friday 9 am – 5 pm: 8 hours of mixed didactic and experiential learning, including whole group sessions (max of 24 participants) and small group sessions (groups of 2 – 3).
Saturday 9 am – 5 pm: An 8-hour experiential day featuring morning meditation, and group send off, followed by small group journeys in groups of 2-3 with one participant taking psilocybin and others learning through observation/being with.
Sunday 9 am – 2 pm: Integration sessions in small groups and large group.
Also included:
- If needed, a pre-training call with one of the instructors, to review your application / fit for the program.
- Detailed guidance on legal and medical considerations.
- Pre-training individual and group Zoom meetings for preparation.
- Post-training individual and group Zoom integration and continued learning support as needed.
Who Should Attend and Enrollment Process
This training is designed for clinicians who have a good understanding of AEDP and an interest in learning how it can be applied to psychedelic assisted therapy. Previous psychedelic experience is encouraged but not required.
Any of the following should attend:
- Clinicians seeking their own psilocybin session in a safe, legal setting using AEDP for preparation, accompaniment and post-session integration/therapy
- Clinicians with prior psilocybin experience wanting to develop or deepen their psychedelic assisted psychotherapy practice.
- Clinicians preferring to observe and lead rather than participate in psilocybin sessions.
* All attendees will learn experientially about how to navigate altered states of consciousness, regardless of direct contact with the medicine *
Safety Considerations for Enrollment for All Participants
Being in a ‘medicine space’ in a group can be vulnerable. Our methods and experience aim to optimize the maintaining of a physically and emotionally safe environment for everyone involved. To support this aim, we take great care with the enrollment process, using our considerable experience to determine whether each applicant is a good fit for the program at this time in their professional and personal life. Everyone who attends will need to be, in our sole judgment, able to hold the kind of space that is required for this work.
Once you register, we will review your application and if you meet the criteria “on paper,” one of our licensed facilitators Emily Bilbao or Deb Lee-Thornby, will contact you to run through further questions to make sure the program is right for you. This will entail questions about your medical and mental health. If together we decide that the program is a fit for you, you will need to complete a legal process required by the state of Oregon, which includes a number of consent documents.
Participants Interested In Having a Psilocybin Experience During the Training
If you register for and are accepted to have a psilocybin journey during the training, you will be opting into and paying for a second (simultaneous) experience that is IN ADDITION to this ‘AEDP-Informed Psilocybin Assisted Therapy’ training. This exchange is completed by Immersive Therapies, the Portland organization hosting the event, and it is completely outside of the scope of AEDP in Portland and AEDP Institute and it is unrelated to the operations of the training which is a vehicle for therapeutic learning.
Meet the Instructors
The training will be led by Emily Bilbao, LCSW, Liz Perkins, LMFT, and Deb Lee-Thornby, LMFT. All three instructors have been studying AEDP for many (up to 10) years and are AEDP Certified Therapists. Liz Perkins is an AEDP Certified Supervisor; Emily Bilbao and Deb Lee-Thornby are Supervisors in Training.
In addition to their deep understanding and skills in AEDP, all three instructors bring with them an immense amount of experience working with and navigating altered states of consciousness:
- Both Deb and Emily completed a year-long course in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy from the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and are Licensed Providers of Psilocybin Assisted Therapy in Oregon.
- Liz, Deb and Emily have all completed the MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) certification.
- Liz and Emily are founding members of the AEDP Committee on Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy.
