Mi Seon is a licensed Creative Arts Psychotherapist in private practice in NY.
Mi Seon's personal immigration experience as an Asian-American has given her a keen understanding of the challenges of being the “other” and navigating the complexities of integrating the various identities we hold. She values inclusiveness and welcomes individuals with intersectional identities of race, family/ethnic heritage, religion/spirituality, health/disabilities, age, gender, and sexual orientation. She brings deep appreciation and expertise for how these identities influence our perception of ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we navigate the broader world.
Also, her previous professional background as a clinical supervisor and program director in NYC social services agencies encompassed extensive support for individuals, couples, and families with children and adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds. In her twenty years on the job, she regularly encountered clients struggling with trauma and loss, childhood abuse/neglect, family conflicts, addictions, and mental illness. This grounding has inspired a special interest in working with clients struggling with anxiety/depression, self-sabotaging thoughts, dysregulated emotions, psychosomatic symptoms, and relational challenges.
She is passionate about providing guidance and support for clients with complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, immigration loss/grief, and racial/discrimination trauma. Her approach to therapy is psychodynamically oriented, relational, and experiential. She draws from various therapeutic disciplines: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy; AEDP; Attachment Focused-EMDR; IFS; Somatic Psychotherapy; Mindfulness-based Therapy; Couples Therapy, and Art Therapy. Mi Seon offers a warm, collaborative, and compassionate safe space for her clients.
