We are deeply governed by our relationships. They are primary in how they’ve shaped our past and endure into the present. Our habits make it harder to change and often back us into corners. I combine a number of approaches to get the best results. With standard approaches such as developmental psychodynamic psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and attachment theory, we can gather in what’s influenced you and how that shows up now.
I also use some cutting-edge approaches (AEDP and Hakomi) that integrate body-based feelings and experiences as well as the latest developments in brain science. By focusing on the body we’re not just thinking and talking about the changes you want and need; you’ll actually feel them. This impacts and increases our motivation. Finally I bring over 25 years in mindfulness to assist us in stepping back and gaining perspective.
I’ve been a practicing clinician for over 15 years. Prior to that I worked in corporations (high tech, financial services, etc.); as a teacher at California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS); as well as an environmental economist to international, federal, state and local agencies. I also founded and ran my own firm. I believe this background helps me to understand not just your emotional world but also the world you may have worked in.
