Hello 👋 I'm Elias (aka Eli). I graduated from Walden University with a master's degree in mental health counseling early in 2024. Currently, I am working as a registered counseling associate at the Philomath office of Empowering Choices Counseling and Consultation, a small counseling clinic located in Philomath, Oregon. My supervisor is Erik Denton, one of the founders of Empowering Choices.
I see my role as a counselor as providing empathy, unconditional acceptance, and genuineness to create a space that you, the client, can use for self-exploration and holistic growth. Another part of my role is helping to focus the counseling session on your inner experience to increase your awareness of your values, emotions, and ways of relating to others. I see your (the client’s) role as actively engaging in this self-exploration by talking about your internal and external worlds and by silent experiencing when that is helpful. A typical counseling session involves the client exploring their moment-to-moment inner experience, and me facilitating this exploration by asking questions, offering my observations, and reflecting back what I am hearing. The way I work as a counselor is based on person-centered theory, as well as AEDP, an experiental, body-focused model of psychotherapy. Based on this model, I may draw attention to your moment-to-moment experience of how things are unfolding in therapy; for example, I might ask you to slow down and bring your focus to any bodily sensations that arise in response to what we are talking about. Over time, this counseling journey can help you process overwhelming emotions, heal from past experiences of trauma, find your inner strength, and gain a new clarity on life.
