Become an AEDP® Certified Therapist

AEDP® Therapist Certification recognizes clinicians who have demonstrated competence in the practice of AEDP through advanced training, supervision, and the successful review of their clinical work. The certification process is designed to support your continued professional growth while promoting excellence and consistency in AEDP practice.

The Certification Journey

Complete the required AEDP® training curriculum and achieve Level 3.

Strengthen your clinical skills through supervision while integrating AEDP principles into your clinical work.

Submit recorded clinical sessions and written reflections that demonstrate your integration and application of the AEDP model.

Level 3 → Certification Supervisor → Application → Upload Materials → Review → 🏆 Certified Therapist

After achieving level 3 by completing all required courses and supervision, you are considered certification-ready.

Your Certification Supervisor will guide and support you throughout the certification process.

Your Certification Supervisor must be either an AEDP Faculty Member or an AEDP Certified Supervisor. Your Certification Supervisor will mentor you throughout the certification process, help prepare your certification package, determine your readiness for review, sign your application, and submit a letter of recommendation to the Certification Review Board.

A minimum of 10 hours of individual supervision is required with a Certification Supervisor, who will support you in developing your certification package and determining your readiness for review. However, readiness, not the number of hours completed, determines when you are ready to apply, and additional supervision may be recommended.

Two-Supervisor Requirement

Candidates must have worked with at least two different supervisors during their AEDP training process.

If you completed Level 3 with only one supervisor, your Certification Supervisor must be someone new. This provides the opportunity to benefit from the perspectives and mentorship of more than one supervisor, supporting a broader and more well-rounded learning experience.

Complete the application with your Certification Supervisor (signature and commitment verification required).

Many clinicians find that becoming involved in the AEDP community enriches their learning throughout the certification process. As you work toward AEDP® Therapist Certification, we invite you to become more involved in the AEDP community. While assisting is not a requirement for Therapist Certification, many clinicians find that joining the Experiential Assistant Learning Community (EALC) and assisting in AEDP Institute trainings enriches their professional development. These experiences offer valuable opportunities for continued learning, connection with colleagues, and deeper integration of AEDP principles. Learn more about the EALC.

If you are considering Supervisor Certification in the future, beginning to assist during the Therapist Certification process can offer an additional advantage. Because assisting is a requirement for admission to the Supervisor-in-Training track, completing some assisting experiences while working toward Therapist Certification can help distribute the assisting requirements over time and make the transition to supervisor training more manageable.
