Implicit Bias – Cleansing Our Lenses

AEDP™ Institute-sponsored workshop presented by: Isis Bey, LCSW, CCTP II, National Trainer

Live Online: Friday, May 19, 2023
11:00 AM – 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time USA

This workshop is limited to 30 participants and is intended for Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Social Workers, Counselors/Marriage and Family Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists.

Description

We all have experiences that shape our beliefs, thoughts and worldview. Oftentimes we interact in the world based on these experiences unintentionally. As psychotherapists we impact others’ lives through these interactions. This workshop is designed to help participants improve these interactions especially with people in vulnerable populations.

Participants will explore how any form of bias, impacts their work as clinicians.

Ms. Bey shares, “…it’s not always about race, … it’s all of our experiences and how we communicate, inflict power and control, judge, and project our beliefs and experiences onto other people. …If we don’t realize we have biases within everyday things that have some neutrality to them, then what does it say about race and gender?”

Through lecture and interactive, experiential styles of learning participants will be encouraged and challenged to assess their self-awareness, cultural competency and implicit biases.

“Recognizing bias is the first step toward making a change to habitual thoughts, emotions and behaviors and to disrupting the behavior that results from those thoughts.”
