Relational Interventions as Part of the Cure: AEDP in the treatment of eating disorders
This seminar is intended for Psychologists, Psychoanalysts, Social Workers, Counselors/Marriage and Family Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists.
Description
While symptom-management and cognitive-behavioral techniques have long dominated the field of eating disorders treatment, experiential and attachment-based approaches to treatment have gained prominence in the past 10 years. With its dual treatment pathways, AEDP offers a way to heal trauma-borne psychological structures that fuel the reliance on eating disorder symptoms and foster enhanced wellbeing and vitality, both of which are greatly diminished when eating disorders are present. In this 4-hour seminar, we will explore the specific application of AEDP in the treatment of eating disorders and consider how we tailor AEDP interventions to eating disorder stages of recovery. The Seminar will be both interactive and didactic, using videotaped session material to illustrate the model in action.
The workshop will end with Q & A and conversation with participants.
Learning Objectives
- Explain why working experientially is helpful in treating eating disorders
- Describe the evolution of eating disorder recovery over time
- Match AEDP interventions with phase of eating disorder recovery
